Scott Reeder, Put The Cat On The Phone: Kavi Gupta | 835 W. Washington Blvd. Chicago, IL, 60607

12 September - 24 October 2015
Overview

Kavi Gupta is proud to present Put the Cat on the Phone, a new exhibition of paintings and objects including new neon work by Scott Reeder.

Delving further into his exploration of the absurd, this body of work riffs off of the recent investigations in Reeder’s feature length film Moon Dust, 2014. The gallery becomes a chromatic backdrop for this perusal, asking the viewers to depart from their own notions of normalcy and embrace these hues of the unreasonable. A range of paintings and objects will inhabit the space furthering dialogues labored by artists like Robert Breer, Piero Manzoni and Martin Kippenberger. At the same time the exhibition draws heavily from Moon Dust‘s use of color theory and modernist sculpture. This interaction between the viewer, the objects in the room and the paintings highlight Reeder’s subversive use of humor to provoke our own study of expectation.

Scott Reeder has held solo exhibitions throughout America and Europe and has been included in group exhibitions at numerous museums and galleries. Recent solo exhibitions include Context Burger at Retrospective, New York, Scott Reeder at 356 Mission, Los Angeles, Paintings of Things at Kavi Gupta BERLIN, People Call Me Scott at Lisa Cooley, New York, Scott Reeder at Kavi Gupta CHICAGO, and Chicago Works: Scott Reeder at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
