Scott Reeder's "Landlord Paintings" at first appear like the opaque, impenetrable color field of a mid-century Abstract Expressionist, but the title and mark-making subtly intimate a more humorous create spark to the series. Inspired by the sloppy, slapdash rolled paint jobs by apartment landlords rapidly looking to cover up old coats of paint between tenants, Reeder created his paintings using house paint (much like Pollock) and a dry-brush roller. Contemplating the (accidental) beauty of the "paintings" created by these landlords, Reeder's series is both contemporary interior landscape and satirical jab.
